If you are planning a summer stay in Schladming-Dachstein, the accommodation is only part of the decision. The other question is just as important: will your stay include the Schladming-Dachstein Card?
This is the region’s official summer guest card, formerly known as the Sommercard. As a Haus Montis guest, you receive it automatically during the 2026 card season. It is not a small discount voucher. It gives access to more than 100 included attractions and more than 100 discounted experiences across the region.
Used well, the card changes the real cost of an active alpine holiday.
Key facts for 2026
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Validity | May 14 to November 1, 2026 |
| How to get it | Stay at least 1 night with a participating accommodation provider |
| Cost | Included for Haus Montis guests at no extra charge |
| First use | From 1:00 p.m. on arrival day, then throughout your stay, including departure day |
| Main benefits | Cable cars, regional buses, pools, lakes, museums, family activities and discounts |
| Dachstein glacier | Included once from 2 consecutive nights, within the first 7 days of your stay |
The official name from 2026 is Schladming-Dachstein Card. Many guests still search for “Sommercard”, so we use both terms where helpful.
What is it actually worth?
Alpine holidays get expensive through the small daily decisions: a cable car in the morning, a bus to a trailhead, a swimming pool in the afternoon, a museum or family programme when the weather changes.
With the card, many of those costs are already covered.
| Programme | Estimated cost without card, family of 4 | With the Card as Haus Montis guests |
|---|---|---|
| 1 cable car ascent and descent | EUR 80-100 | EUR 0 |
| Regional bus or hiking bus | EUR 15-25 | EUR 0 |
| Pool or lake entry | EUR 20-35 | EUR 0 |
| Museum, guided programme or family activity | EUR 25-50 | EUR 0 or discounted |
| One active day | EUR 140-210 | usually EUR 0 or heavily reduced |
These figures are indicative estimates. Exact prices can vary by activity, age group and season.
The exact saving depends on how actively you use the card. But for families and active couples, the value adds up quickly.
Cable cars: one mountain trip every day
The strongest benefit is simple: one free ascent and descent per day on a summer mountain lift of your choice. In Schladming-Dachstein this is a serious advantage, because the mountains are full summer destinations: panorama trails, family play areas, ridge walks, huts and alpine lakes.
Haus Montis is especially convenient for this because Hauser Kaibling is close by. It is not only a winter ski mountain; in summer it works well as a first mountain day for families, hikers and guests who want an easy start.
Easy family day
Breakfast at the apartment, cable car up the mountain, a short walk or play area, lunch at a hut, then a pool or lake in the afternoon. With children, this is a full day without turning logistics into the main event.
Active couple day
Start early, gain altitude by cable car, choose a longer trail or ridge walk, return in the afternoon and finish with dinner in Haus im Ennstal or Schladming. The card does not replace the experience; it removes the expensive entry points.
Dachstein day
The Dachstein glacier is a special case. If you stay at least two consecutive nights, the Dachstein cable car is included once within the first 7 days of your stay. Plan it around the weather: on a clear day, the Skywalk, glacier views and high-alpine atmosphere can become the highlight of the trip.
Leave the car at Haus Montis
Regional bus travel is included with the card. This matters in summer, because popular valleys and trailheads often make parking harder than the actual hike.
At Haus Montis, the car can stay in the private parking area while you move by bus, cable car or on foot. Families avoid repeated packing and parking searches. Couples avoid driving back tired after a longer tour.
Some toll roads and shuttle services have seasonal rules, so check the current official Schladming-Dachstein Card benefit list before planning a specific road route.
Pools, lakes and bad-weather options
A good summer rhythm here is mountain in the morning, water in the afternoon. Pools, swimming lakes and leisure areas are among the most useful card benefits, especially for families.
If the weather changes, the card still helps. Museums, cultural attractions and indoor-friendly programmes give you a Plan B without turning every rainy day into an extra expense.
For families
With children, the hard part is not always the hike. It is having a good plan every day without watching the budget run away.
Children also receive the Schladming-Dachstein Card, and a separate KidsCard is available for younger guests. The region offers family mountains, play stations, guided programmes, water experiences and easy walks that can be mixed depending on weather and energy.
The 62 m2 Apartment Montis supports that rhythm: two separate bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, outdoor space and enough room to recover after a full day outside.
For couples and active travellers
For couples, the card is valuable for flexibility: a cable car panorama walk one day, a gorge or waterfall route the next, Dachstein on the clearest day, then a lake or dinner in Schladming.
Good active options include the Wilde Wasser area, the gorges around Ramsau, high mountain lakes and Dachstein. The distances are manageable, but the day works best when the logistics are easy. The card brings buses, lifts, entries and discounts into one system.
The Haus Montis studio is built for this style of travel: compact, independent, quiet and comfortable enough to feel like a real base after a long day outside.
A realistic 4-day plan
| Day | Programme idea | Why the card helps |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arrival, short walk in Haus im Ennstal, afternoon pool or easy programme | Valid from 1:00 p.m. on arrival day |
| Day 2 | Hauser Kaibling or Planai by cable car, easy hike or family activity | Daily ascent and descent included |
| Day 3 | Wilde Wasser, gorge route or bus-accessed trailhead | Regional buses simplify the logistics |
| Day 4 | Dachstein day if staying 2+ nights, or lake and Schladming | Dachstein can be a high-value included experience |
For a full week, add Reiteralm, Hochwurzen, a pool day, a museum or a slower family day. The point is not to make every day huge. The card makes the smaller days easier to say yes to.

How you get the card
Book a stay at Haus Montis during the 2026 card season, May 14 to November 1. The card is issued for your stay and can also be used digitally in the Schladming-Dachstein app.
It is active from 1:00 p.m. on arrival day and remains valid on departure day. For shorter stays, that makes a real difference: a two-night trip can become three usable programme days.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Schladming-Dachstein Card really free?
Yes. For Haus Montis guests, the card is included during the card season at no extra charge. It cannot simply be bought as a normal guest card without staying at a participating accommodation.
What is the difference between the Card and the Sommercard?
From 2026, the official name is Schladming-Dachstein Card. Sommercard is the previous name and is still widely used in searches and conversation.
When is the card valid in 2026?
From May 14 to November 1, 2026. The summer period runs until the end of September, followed by the autumn card period from October 1 to November 1.
Can I use it on arrival day?
Yes, from 1:00 p.m. on arrival day, and it remains valid on departure day. For mountain lifts, the 1:00 p.m. arrival-day rule applies.
Is Dachstein glacier included?
Yes, with a special condition: you need at least two consecutive nights with the same participating accommodation. Then the Dachstein cable car can be used once within the first 7 days.
Do children receive the card?
Yes. Children receive the Schladming-Dachstein Card as well, and a separate KidsCard is available for child-focused activities.
How much can it save?
With active use, a family of four can offset roughly EUR 100-200 of programme costs per day. The exact amount depends on how many lifts, pools, buses, museums and activities you use.
